The Shoal

The Shoal finds and imports beautiful handmade marine art from Sicily, ceramic fish and other creatures, selling direct to the public, through gallery stockists and interior designers, and into leisure, hospitality and marine sectors. Each piece is unique, made and painted by hand, fired in the kiln to produce the deep and iridescent colours and markings of the real sea creature. Our customers 'bring their walls to life', creating beautiful custom marine wall art installations using our artisanal ceramic pieces. Based near the sea in Lyme Regis, Dorset, England, The Shoal has developed a professional, trusting and friendly relationship with the artist, his family and team who make all the ceramics by hand. At The Shoal, founders and proprietors Pete and Diane have partnered with them to launch their range of ceramic art to markets in the UK. They have been buying these ceramic pieces for their own home for many years, without knowing who the artist was. Through a series of coincidences and inspired by trying, and failing, to find in the UK a replacement for a smashed Sicilian pottery bowl, Pete contacted his son, Fraser, who works on a superyacht and happened to be in Sicily. Instead of finding an authentic replacement bowl Fraser found the fish and after many conversations the plan was hatched for The Shoal to represent the artist in the UK. The first stocking order arrived in the UK from Sicily at the end of 2020 and The Shoal was born. Not only selling online, but also direct at shows, festivals and through trusted stockists and interior design partners, The Shoal is a start-up that aims to be different. Starting and surviving in the worst economic environment in decades makes us determined to continue to grow beyond our first years and expand the business into unique interior design installations.
