Thorelli & Associates has spent over 30 years working with small to medium size foreign companies doing business in the U.S., many of them in the realm of technology. Our clients range from high-tech startups to companies with software applications, telecommunications, medical devices, automotive and aeronautic industries, consumer products, security technology, consulting services, etc. Over the years, Thorelli & Associates has assisted over one thousand foreign companies in properly structuring their entry into the US. What we do is to help foreign companies understand the distinction between the way lawyers are used in foreign countries and the U.S. and take preventive action to help reduce the risk of prospective legal problems. In foreign countries, lawyers are typically contacted only when there is a problem that the company cannot resolve on its own. In the U.S., conversely, lawyers are engaged at a very early stage of negotiations in order to not only minimize the risk of legal problems, but also maximize the acquisition of legal rights. If a foreign company does not adopt the same approach, it will be at a distinct disadvantage. We help clients to negotiate confidentiality and non-use agreements, sales, agency, representative, distribution and license agreements; joint ventures and acquisitions; organize companies, negotiate leases, secure all of the different forms of visas that may be necessary to staff the local operation, and help companies minimize the risk of product liability problems through a service we call product liability preventive management.
