It just happened that The Embassy of India – Jakarta, Indonesia organized its Festival of India in Indonesia 2015 with the theme “Sahabat India” from January – September 2015.
The primary objective of “Sahabat India” was to promote Indian culture among the Indonesian Community. The idea of Incredible India Education Fair (IIEF) in Indonesia was initiated by Mr. Ravi Makhija, MBA, Director of International Affairs in a Reputed Private University; who has worked in the Indonesian Education sector for the past 14 years and has observed the “acute lack of representation” by Indian Universities in Indonesia. Countries like USA, UK, Malaysia, China, Australia and many others have been represented in well-organized regular education events throughout the years, as a result of which, thousands of Indonesian students have traveled to these countries for their tertiary education, while there have been a negligible number of Indonesian students travelling to India for the Indian Education Sector.
Past Indian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, His Excellency Gurjit Singh supported and endorsed the idea of creating opportunities for the Indian Education Sector in Indonesia which led to the creation of the IIEF in 2015 and also to TIE UPS International (TUI) in October 2015. This support and endorsement has been continued by the current Indian Ambassador to Indonesia and Timor Leste, Her Excellency Nengcha Lhouvum Mukhopadhaya.
TUI was primarily formed with a view to promote Indian education in Indonesia. With over 3 years of experience, it has broadened its horizon to:
- Promote Indian education in Indonesia
- Enhance Educational links between India and South East Asian (SEA) Nations including Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore
