Tight-Knit Syria (TKS) is a not-for-profit organization registered in Canada that has been working internationally since 2013 to provide displaced Syrian women with the tools to rebuild their livelihoods. Many Syrian women possess advanced traditional needlework skills, including embroidering, knitting and crocheting, with which they can produce high-quality fashion items. Despite the fact that these are marketable skills, Syrian refugees are often too isolated by location, poverty and lack of awareness to utilize them to make an income.
TKS introduces their products to (Western) consumers via e-commerce, entrepreneurial collaborations and customized wholesale orders. In this way, TKS strives to contribute to inclusive growth in one of the world’s most vulnerable communities and advance women’s economic rights and access to employment.
