Top of the North Marine Biosecurity Partnership Overview

'Clean Below? Good to Go' is an education campaign designed to help raise awareness of the role biofouling plays in the spread of marine pests. The upper North Island, including Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Gisborne and Hawke’s Bay regions is home to more than 70% of New Zealand’s domestic maritime vessels. With a coastline of accessible bays, good anchorages and coastal towns, the regions are tightly interconnected, with sea travel easy and frequent. This project is a collaboration between: Northland Regional Council Auckland Council Waikato Regional Council Bay of Plenty Regional Council Toi Moana Gisborne District Council Hawke's Bay Regional Council Ministry for Primary Industries Department of Conservation Our work focuses on minimising the risk of marine pests being spread by: detecting any incursions early; responding to and managing incursions when they happen; and education and behaviour change – working with boaties and the general public to increase awareness and knowledge of how marine pests can spread.
