TRAGEN is a Small Enterprise Company (SME) quite new and set up 20.06.2014. TRAGEN located in Trakya University Technopark having some tax advantages for research company because Turkish Government highly promotes basic and applied research recently. The owners of company are Prof. Dr. Yalcin Kaya and Assist Prof. Dr. Necmi Beser from Trakya University Engineering Faculty Genetics and Bioengineering department. Prof Dr Kaya had M Sc in University of Nebraska- Lincoln, USA on sunflower breeding, post doc on sunflower molecular breeding, and Assist Prof Dr Beser had M Phil on plant breeding and genetics in Birmingham and Reading Universities, UK. They have made very successful task and have a vast experience in plant breeding and genetics with performing for many years in Trakya Agricultural Research Institute in Edirne, Turkey together. After more than 25 years’ research carriers, they left and started in University to teach their experience to younger generations on plant breeding and genetics. They set also that their own private research company to transfer and put into practice their knowledge and experiences in molecular and classical breeding on plant, seed production and other applied RD areas.
TRAGEN Research Company has breeding programs currently in rice, wheat, oat, corn, chickpea, lentil, forage pea, barley, bean, oil and confectionery sunflower and confectionery pumpkin. In addition to conduct crop improvement programs to develop new lines, cultivars and hybrids, TRAGEN conducts yield trials for other companies as well as advisory and consultancy service on plant breeding, seed production and research studies, etc.
