In 1979 a group of feminist women in Belmont County recognized there was a need to help other women who were victims of domestic violence. From those grassroots efforts, today, the Tri-County Help Center, Inc. exists as a private, non-profit organization providing victim assistance and mental health services in Belmont, Harrison and Monroe counties operating the only safe, emergency shelter for victims and their families. Domestic violence and sexual assault victims have access to free shelter, legal advocacy, hospital accompaniment to survivors, and a 24-hour crisis hotline. TCHC also offers mental health counseling to victims and individuals with a mental health need. TCHC works to advocate for victims' rights and promote peace in healing.
