Trimley Station Community Trust is an independent registered charity which relies on financial support from individuals, corporations and foundations. It was formed in 2012 by 300 village residents determined to save their historic railway station from demolition by Network Rail. Designed by W.N.Ashbee in 1891, it is the only surviving country station built by the former Great Eastern Railway in Suffolk. The trust have succeeded in negotiating an initial 2 year lease from the Train Operating Company to enable an attempt to secure funding to repair and refurbish the disused buildings for community use:- STRATEGIC AIMS 1. Community Café 2. Disabled Access Toilets 3. Internet media for Local and Historic Information 4. Multipurpose Meeting Rooms 5. Cycle Hire Facilities to explore the village and gain access to the Trimley Nature Reserve - www.suffolkwildlifetrust.org/reserves/trimley-marshes - a secluded wetland with purpose built hides which can only be accessed by following a 2 mile bridleway. The group’s principles are supported by local residents and small businesses, parish and district councils, community action groups, the Victorian Society and the Railway Heritage Trust.
