The school began with just 93 students back in April 2003. At that time, the school went by the name Tsuchiura Nihon University Junior High School. However, within just a few years the school was already considered one of the most attractive schools in the prefecture. As a testament to that, it was conferred "secondary school" status in 2006 - the first school to receive such recognition in Ibaraki Prefecture. In April 2007, Tsuchiura Nihon University Secondary School was officially established, and it has continued to build a reputation as one of the more competitive schools in the Prefecture, whilst upholding the legacy and traditions of its mother institution, Nihon University. The school is committed to molding grounded students who are connected to, and proud of their country’s rich culture and history. The school also empowers students to be ambassadors of their culture, individuals who are able and are willing to share their knowledge of Japan and its proud heritage to the international community, and to foster cooperation and communication across physical, racial, social, economic, and cultural borders. The school also works to instill in its students, the core values that are meant to help them grow into future leaders in today’s dynamic interconnected world.
