Tubestation Overview
Tubestation is a registered charity that works within UK surf culture to bring fragmented coastal communities together using local resources for the benefit of residents. Formed as a not for profit organisation in 2006, Tubestation became a registered charity in October 2008. Tubestation worked initially within the community of Polzeath, coastal North Cornwall, to evaluate with residents and community groups, clubs and associations, the potentially beneficial alternative uses for an underused chapel and beach site. The organisation sought to raise funds to remodel the premises for a wide variety of identified community uses and to meet objectives laid out by local strategic partnerships. Thanks to a radical creative strategy and strong reputation with many thousands of visitors from across the UK in its first year, the Polzeath project is regarded as having forged a successful model for bringing many strands of community together. With each venture Tubestation seeks to engage existing community resources and create beneficial relationships and partnerships, and bring people together in otherwise fragmented and statistically needy communities. As a charity working in partnership with the Methodist Church of England and Wales and Christian Surfers UK it also seeks to actively enhance existing church and faith groups, encourage new groups to form, and employ sound relational principles to be a positive influence in people's lives.
