Our b’nei mitzvah programs broaden awareness of social issues and provide hands-on volunteering opportunities for our families to give back. It’s flexible, fun and rewarding.
Delivered through two streams, our Twelve batmitzvah and Thirteen barmitzvah cohorts participate in separate volunteering sessions with our charity partners.
What’s involved
• February: Interactive face to face opening workshop
• Monthly volunteering session: 2 hour session, once a month during the school term (1-3 sessions)
• October: Closing ceremony
What we do
• Making meals for the homeless with Youth Projects
• Packing craft kits for seriously ill children with Koala Kids
• Preparing meals and serving disadvantaged clients at St Joseph's Outreach Services
• Playing basketball with youth from public housing with Helping Hoops
• Packing and meal deliveries to marginalised Jewish families with C Care
• Designing wishes with Make A Wish Foundation

What you receive:
• Access to some of Melbourne’s leading organisations & charities, often closed to the public, including women’s shelters, homeless centres, soup kitchens. hospital programs, senior support and more
• Shared experience: You may choose to make this journey one between either parent or guardian and child
• or mix it up with a different family member joining the giving journey each session. The choice is yours.
• Flexibility: We know each family is different and commitments can vary throughout the year. This is why we offer volunteering opportunities on Sunday mornings and afternoons
• Opportunity to make new friends and connect with your community
