Founded in 2007, United 2 Heal (U2H) is an undergraduate-run nonprofit organization at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI. We strongly believe that each and every human being in the world deserves the same access to high-quality healthcare. Our mission is to fight global health inequity by collecting, sorting, and shipping surplus medical supplies to areas in desperate need all around the world. Our volunteers can be found at World Medical Relief in Southfield, MI, where United 2 Heal is the #1 student organization.
Notably, United 2 Heal volunteers are among the first in the world to assist in the restoration of pacemaker devices for reuse. Between 1 and 2 million people die every year from lack of a pacemaker, which can cost tens of thousands of dollars. As part of an ongoing and revolutionary clinical trial led by My Heart Your Heart, United 2 Heal volunteers are helping to make pacemaker restoration a reality. Ever since this work began at World Medical Relief, our volunteers have been working with My Heart Your Heart to interrogate, de-lead, and further process thousands of pacemaker devices.
We take pride in our shipments. United 2 Heal raises funds throughout the year and we use the money to sponsor the shipment of a 40' container full of medical supplies from World Medical Relief in Southfield, MI to a country in need. Throughout our history, we have sent several shipments totaling several millions of dollars. Our next shipment, scheduled for the Summer of 2019, will be sent to Ivory Coast.
Our community is primarily composed of students and alumni of the University of Michigan. United 2 Heal is composed of a Board, a body of active members, and a large community of casual volunteers. Our community means a lot to us, and we organize several social events, workshops, and fundraisers throughout the year to bring people together in recognition of our shared mission.
