UC Irvine's Public Health Informatics & Technology (PHIT) Workforce Development Program, with support from the Assistant Secretary for Technology Policy (ASTP) of the US Department of Health and Human Services, will contribute to the nationwide effort to prepare 4,000 qualified individuals over the next four years to (1) modernize the nation’s public health information infrastructure and (2) address the issue of health disparities and inequities. The UCI PHIT program's objectives are to (1) teach informatics and technology skills to public health undergraduate and graduate students as well as working professionals, (2) attract students from science, engineering, and other relevant disciplines to join the public health workforce, and (3) recruit and support the success of underrepresented minority students. The UCI PHIT program will offer multiple undergraduate, graduate, and continuing education degrees and certificates in health informatics and technology.
