Undergraduate Essayists' Group Overview

The Undergraduate Essayist Group (UEG) is a nonprofit youth-led writing organization dedicated to equipping young writers with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need to accelerate the achievement of sustainable development through writing. Empowering Writers, Enabling Change. #WriteForSDGs On July 8, 2021, we founded this initiative to equip undergraduates in Nigeria’s tertiary institutions with in-depth knowledge of essay writing, research, citation, referencing, and proofreading. Since then, we have become a home of consistent award-winning essayists and a community of over 1250 members whom we have impacted through our webinars, training, and programs. However, after three years of promoting writing, empowering hundreds of young writers with essay writing knowledge, and helping them find their voice and tell their stories, we significantly shifted our mission and focus, expanding our scope to leverage writing to promote sustainable development in Nigeria, Africa, and globally. As of 2025, UEG has decided to tailor its webinars, training programs, and initiatives to align with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This strategic shift reflects the organization's commitment to harnessing the power of writing to drive positive change and contribute to a more equitable and sustainable future. UEG’s mission is to educate and empower young African writers with knowledge, skills, and resources to advocate and accelerate the actualization of the SDGs locally and globally. Our vision is to have a world where every book, article, journal, research We are excited to take our mission to the next level by focusing on writing for sustainable development. Writing can inspire, educate, and mobilize people to take action on the most pressing issues of our time. By focusing on writing for sustainable development, we aim to empower a new generation of writers who can drive positive change and contribute to a more sustainable future.
