UNESCO has awarded the School of Communication and Media Studies (Escola Superior de Comunicação Social, ESCS) of the Polytechnic University of Lisbon (Politécnico de Lisboa, IPL) the Chair in Communication, Media and Information Literacy and Citizenship. The Chair aims to promote critical understanding of the media, empower citizens to actively and consciously participate in society, and create an ethical and democratic communication environment. The main areas of intervention include advanced training in communication and citizenship, promotion of applied research on the effects of information and media on society, and national and international cooperation with the perspective of sharing good practices. All initiatives are in line with UNESCO’s values and mission and are based on the cross-cutting nature of the Education 2030 Agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals, the Medium-Term Strategy 2022-2029 and UNESCO’s actions in support of Media Literacy. The entire community can participate in this international project.
