Shaping the Future Unity 2012 recognises that the Cairns Regional Council local government area is coming off what has probably been its most difficult ever four year period. Never has the need been greater to refocus and to set about rebuilding our economic base. This is a time for solid leadership and hard work. It is a time for careful evaluation and management of operational and capital expenditure and the management of risk. We live in what is arguably the most beautiful region in Australia, and Cairns has the potential to establish itself not only as Australia’s most liveable city but also as a region with a soundly diversified economic base which underpins the future sustainability of the region. Unity 2012 is committed to the future growth and development of the Cairns Region in a sensitive and sustainable way and with an eye to the future, so as not to inhibit the capacity of future generations to satisfy their legitimate needs. As is the case with generations who have preceded us we are the link between the past and the future – we are the ones with the responsibility for shaping the future.
