Urban Malaria Lab Overview

We are an urban malaria research team based at Loyola University Chicago, generously funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Our mission is to tackle the evolving challenge of malaria in cities, where rapid urbanization is creating new hot spots for transmission. We apply a multidisciplinary approach that includes statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, machine learning, and field studies to inform targeted malaria interventions in urban settings. Through collaborations with local institutions and national malaria programs, we conduct research to understand the unique determinants of malaria in cities. Our work includes epidemiologic, entomologic, and qualitative studies, as well as the development of software tools and data-driven frameworks to help optimize intervention strategies.
