University of Strathclyde Eco Vehicle Overview

The University of Strathclyde Eco Vehicle Society (USEV) is a fully student led team that designs, builds, and tests a highly efficient battery powered electric vehicle to compete in the Shell Eco Marathon. The Shell Eco Marathon (SEM) is an international competition where teams compete against each other in a race judged on fuel efficiency. USEV competes in the Battery-Electric Prototype category within the SEM Europe & Africa division. The team also looks to develop its relations with both sponsors and gain exposure in the sustainable engineering sector through marketing campaigns to showcase renewable engineering! This year we are working on our new car Clyde 4.0. This is a very exciting 2-year project to build a monocoque. A monocoque is a structure which acts as the load bearing chassis, but also works as an aerodynamic shell. It will be manufactured with multi-layered composites such as aluminium honeycomb and carbon fibre allowing the team to produce one of the best highly efficient vehicle concepts for our category in the competition. We are also going to be moving to a brushless motor which will improve our energy efficiency and we will be remanufacturing our battery. The other aspects of the car will also be redesigned to fit within the new car.
