Established in 2008, the Utah Judicial Performance Evaluation Commission (JPEC) is an independent government body dedicated to providing voters with transparent and objective evaluations of judges seeking retention.
Our Goals:
Provide Information to Voters: We collect and share performance information about judges, empowering voters to make informed decisions regarding judicial retention.
Provide Feedback to Judges: Our evaluations offer constructive feedback to judges, fostering their professional growth and enhancing the overall quality of the judiciary in Utah.
Promote Public Accountability: We advocate for judicial accountability while ensuring the independence of the judiciary is preserved.
Our 13-member commission evaluates state judges by gathering data through surveys, observations, interviews, and public comments. We implement a blind evaluation process to minimize bias and provide the public with valuable insights into each judge’s performance.
