The UWI Ventures Limited is the newest and most critical component of the UWI STA ecosystem representing a major turning point for the UWI. It is is a “bolt-on” company of the UWI St. Augustine with a strong private sector DNA, which serves as a holding company for UWI spin-offs and start-ups from the wider national ecosystem. It is designed to be lean, agile and entrepreneurial and will identify and develop entrepreneurs, start-ups, SMEs, commercially viable patents, and other intellectual property towards establishing a community of globally competitive business enterprises. Strategically, it seeks to leverage its UWI partnerships towards developing and investing in promising business entities and start-ups that can positively impact local and regional socio-economic development.
In keeping with its strategic mandate, the UWI Ventures has developed a 24/7, 365 digital access platform that will facilitate coaching and mentorship services as well as engagement with industry experts and private sector entities seeking investment and research opportunity with the UWI. This platform will be launched in September 2020.
