The vascular research laboratory at the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC) is a translational research group with an interest in vascular biology and in particular, the pathophysiology behind atherosclerosis and vein graft disease. To better understand the pathophysiology and molecular and cellular mechanisms occurring in the vessel wall, state-of-the-art imaging technologies such as photoacoustics are employed. Furthermore, the lab has conducted extensive research on the role of the innate as well as the adaptive immune system and intraplaque angiogenesis. Besides the various original studies that are conducted, the group also aims to teach the next generation of researchers by offering multiple options for internships and PhD-projects.
