Velo 11 is the first cycling club in the UK open exclusively to ex and professional footballers. It was created in Spring 2020 by Manchester based lifelong friends; Professional footballer Lewis Montrose with a career spanning 15 years and Sport Rehab Therapist Nathan Williams who has worked in Premier League & elite level football for 10 years.
The off season of 2020 saw Lewis and Nathan introduce even more road cycling into their training sessions together. Their rides quickly sparked interest from other friends and fellow players locally, and they now enjoy frequent group rides with like-minded players out on the road or online virtually with Zwift. The group have all expressed how cycling as part of a team has offered them variety and structure in their training and feel the Velo 11 group rides have given them the social ‘changing room environment’ which they miss during the off-season, or since retiring from the game.
As professionals of the football industry, Lewis & Nathan are passionate about sharing their experience and the benefits cycling has given them both physically and mentally with other players. The founders are on a mission to encourage as many ex and professional footballers into cycling as possible, through their Strava based cycling club.
Velo 11 is an inclusive club where players with an interest in cycling can connect, reconnect and engage with each other. Whether it be out on the road, online, individually or as part of a group, They all socially ride or compete for that top spot on the group’s leaderboard!
