A sparkling wine, produced in Chablis, France, made from 100 per cent pinot noir grapes, thereby giving it a very distinctive and vintage Champagne-like taste. The name Verre Anglais (English Glass) comes from the fact that this is the contribution the English, undeniably, made to the creation of Champagne – the bottle strong enough to contain it. It is very much a coming together and acceptance of both the French and English efforts.
