VIRCO is a Ceylon Coconut-based product processing and exporting company established in 2015. VIRCO is Located in Mawathagama, within the legendary coconut triangle of Sri Lanka.
In the 1950s, Mr. Piyadasa operated his own Coconut Plantation Business and a Rice Mill in Mawathagama. The emphasis at that time was quality and convenience, and he was sensible and sufficiently aware of commoditisation and the trends that were emerging. Having established an honest practice in his field, the business changed hands in the 1990s, with members of his family taking over.
In a further development, in 2015, Mr Nipuna Illangaratne and Dr Dinesh Kodituwakku ventured into the area of virgin coconut oil. Specifically, they embarked on the manufacture of MCT oil, being a pioneer in this realm, along with Virgin Coconut Oil.
VIRCO chose to be an advocate of a business model dedicated to world-class healthy foods and lifestyle products with the guiding philosophy of 'Let the Food be the Medicine, and the Medicine be the Food’. The business concept is rooted in sustainable farming and fair-trade practices, ensuring that every step of the production chain respects the Earth and its caretakers.
