Voluntary Service Association (VSA) is a community based NGO established in 2001. VSA works with the poorest and the most vulnerable such as women, children and other disadvantaged groups in their struggle against hunger, poverty and suffering an injustice. Currently the VSA programme focuses on livelihoods, Skill Development, gender equality, education for All, poverty and Environmental development.
VSA’s current education programme is benefiting 200 (80% girls) marginalised children directly and more than 3000 children through advocacy for quality education in government schools. The major contribution of VSA education programme includes providing education to the most marginalised children, promoting greater community participation in school monitoring & management, training of teachers, community leaders and stakeholders to develop sensitivity on social issues; increasing access to quality education for girls. VSA was able to mobilize Parents Teacher’s Associations, Village Education Committees and Education Department to improve the functioning of the Government schools. The mobilization and advocacy efforts resulted in a reduction in the pupil teacher ratio in these schools, improved drinking water and sanitation facilities and increase in the enrollment and learning levels of children, particularly girls.
