Center for Service and Leadership Company Profile, Contacts & Intelligence
Center for Service and Leadership Overview
The Center for Service and Leadership strives to enhance the student experience through active and diverse engagement opportunities in the community. These meaningful and experiential learning opportunities provide active, global citizens. The CSL works towards its goals through the work done by their Community Action Teams, which include Al's Pals Mentorship Program, Beat Auburn Beat Hunger, Big Days of Service, UA Habitat, UA Miracle, and Serving Bama. Al’s Pals mentors commit one afternoon weekly for 10 weeks during the semester to serve elementary students in local schools. It’s a great way to get involved and meet fellow students while making a difference in children’s lives. Every year, BABH competes with Auburn University’s Beat Bama Food Drive in a food drive to benefit local food banks. This friendly competition has raised over 6 million pounds of food for Alabamians since its inception. In addition to the annual food drive, BABH engages in year-round education and advocacy related to food insecurity issues. Throughout the year, the Center for Service and Leadership hosts Big Days of Service for the campus community. These service days offer students, faculty, and staff the chance to serve all across town. The University of Alabama chapter of Habitat for Humanity engages University of Alabama students in advocating, building, educating, and fundraising to support Habitat for Humanity International’s mission to build homes, communities, and hope. The Serving Bama team organizes around 10 service opportunities every week with local non-profits that address causes such as outdoor and environmental efforts, housing security, community development, and animal welfare. UA Miracle is entirely student-run, and is proud to have become a tradition on campus and in the community. These students spend a year learning invaluable leadership and social skills while raising funds in a variety of ways and interacting with children’s hospital patients and families.
