About Institute for Computational Mechanics (Wall Lab)
The Institute for Computational Mechanics (LNM) is committed to what can best be described as cutting-edge “application-motivated fundamental research” in a broad range of areas in computational mechanics, with applications spanning all engineering fields and the applied sciences. With a strong basis in a variety of advanced single-field problems (like computational solid, fluid, and transport dynamics), a special focus lies on coupled multifield and multiscale problems (like fluid-structure interaction, contact dynamics, thermo-structure interaction, electro-chemo-mechano-thermo interaction, opto-acoustics, porous media, multiphase transport, etc.). The main applications at the moment are challenging problems in computational biophysics (on sub-cellular and cellular scale), biomedical engineering (like modeling of respiratory and vascular systems, cardiac modeling, cancer growth, musculoskeletal system, etc.), metal additive manufacturing (on all scales, i.e. from powders to piece) and (all-solid-state) batteries. In all these areas, LNM covers the full spectrum from advanced modeling and developing novel computational methods to sophisticated software development and application-oriented simulations on high-performance computing systems. Meanwhile, research activities also include optimization, inverse analysis, uncertainty quantification, machine learning, and experimental work. In collaboration with leading researchers worldwide as well as national and international industrial partners, LNM expedites projects at the front line of research.
