Warsaw Mummy Project Human is the only official website of the project of the Warsaw Mummy Project, which is researching ancient Egyptian mummies since 2015.
We made a non-invasive examination of 23 human and 20 animal mummies using state of the art technologies:
- mummy of the Egyptian pregnant woman, also known as "the Mysterious Lady"
- Mummy of Panepy
- two mummies of children
- a "fake" mummy or a pseudo-mummy
and several heads, hands, feet, a jar with remains of a mummy, and other mummy fragments.
Our research is divided into two stages, the first - computed tomography and X-ray scanning, made in December 2015; the second - laboratory tests of micro samples are planned to be made in the future.
Our project involves a comprehensive examination of mummies in terms of: archaeological (artifacts in mummies), cultural (study of funeral traditions), anthropological (establishing sex, age, height, state of tissue preservation, facial reconstructions), palaeopathological (birth defects and diseases they suffered), taphonomic ( post-death processes), chemical, microbiological, physical, genetic and medical examinations.
