Established in 1943, the Wayne Township Memorial First Aid Squad, born out of necessity, has evolved into an efficient organization responding to 5,000+ annual calls. After the loss of eight lives in 1942, concerned citizens formed the squad, officially responding to its first call on September 1, 1944. Headquartered on Oak Street, it expanded to Boonton Road, then Mountain View building on Taylor Drive, with additional facilities on Hamburg Turnpike.
The squad, which started with a 1942 Buick hearse, now operates five ambulances, a heavy rescue, gator, mobile ambulance bus, mass casualty trailers, chief cars, and two boats. Over 65 trained Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) ensure top-notch service. The Youth Squad, established in 1973, evolved into the Cadet Corps. Recognized as the Outstanding Volunteer EMS Agency in 2007, the squad's journey reflects growth, modernization, and dedicated service to the community. In 2016, it answered over 5,070 calls, showcasing its commitment to excellence and efficient emergency response.
