Weekend Survival Kits Overview
Weekend Survival Kits mobilizes communities to provide food on the weekends to children in grades K-5 who may otherwise go hungry ultimately helping remove barriers to academic success. ** Weekend Survival Kits provisionally serves children in grades 6-12. Every school-aged child in America has the food he/she needs to properly engage at school and have a fighting chance to succeed academically. We will strive to increase participation in the NSLP, SBP and WSK program to ensure the children who qualify will have food EVERY DAY of the week during the school year. The foundation of Weekend Survival Kits is FIGHTING HUNGER among Elementary-aged children. The Weekend Survival Kits program is strongly supported by partner organizations in the following 17 school districts: Bath Detroit Dewitt Dansville Dimondale East Lansing Haslett Holt Howell Ingham ISD Lansing Mason Okemos Perry Pinckney Webberville Williamston Current Counties served by Weekend Survival Kits: Clinton Ingham Livingston Shiawassee Wayne These programs are intended to meet the nutritional needs of children during non-school hours, specifically on weekends.
