Wema Children, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded to provide relief to orphans and children who have been affected by war, disease, and poverty in underserved regions in East Africa. Wema, meaning “goodness” in Swahili, currently serves schools and other community-based groups in Bukembe Village, Bungoma, Western Kenya, a community with one of the highest poverty and HIV/AIDS rates in the region. Over the years, it has supported over 500 children in both primary and secondary schools, and helped institutions reach higher academic achievement year after year. Today, Wema Children, with the generous support of friends and sponsors, provides children with a loving home, proper hygiene and nutrition, medicine, and a sustainable environment for learning and achievement.
