MISSION STATEMENT The West Melbourne Police Department’s mission is to provide exceptional service while relentlessly pursuing justice to foster a safe community. We are drive by our calling to serve the people with honor, courage and integrity. HISTORY The West Melbourne Police Department traces its roots back to 1959 shortly after the City was created. Today our Department has 52 sworn officers and 10 professional staff members. Together we are responsible for the protection and safety of West Melbourne's 28,857 residents as well as the many visitors that come and go through our city every day. SERVING THE COMMUNITY It is important for us to stay connected within the community we serve. It is also important that you are informed about what we do, how we accomplish our work and how you can assist us in being successful with our public safety endeavors. ACCREDITATION The West Melbourne Police Department is accredited through the Commission for Florida Law Enforcement Accreditation (CFA). To be accredited we had to come into compliance with over 260 Commission approved standards, mostly relating to life, health and safety. The Department officially obtained accreditation status on June 22, 2016 and we were reaccredited in February 2020 and February 2023. The award is in effect for a three-year period.
