Will Carleton Academy is a tuition-free premier K-12 charter school located in Hillsdale, Michigan. In 1998, Will Carleton Academy was founded by a group of mothers looking for a better educational choice for their children. The school is dedicated to presenting students with a strong understanding of the world around them, while also forming the character of each student.

Will Carleton Academy dedicates its mission to the memory of the school's namesake, Will Carleton, a poet and public speaker in Michigan in the late nineteenth century. According to Jerome Fallon in his monograph, "Will Carleton, Michigan's Poet of the People," the love of learning that drove Carleton's life reflected itself in his poetry-writings that promoted "the homely virtues of honesty, thrift and integrity, and the importance of family and home."
