Women in Mining Nigeria (WIMIN) is a non-governmental organization focused on advancing the interest of women in the minerals, exploration and mining sector in Nigeria. It is positioned to be the umbrella organization to champion and address gender and other cross-cutting issues within the mining sector.
The organization has assumed a worldwide acceptance knowing that there is the need for equity and protection of the most vulnerable from the impacts of mining which is often most gravely felt by women and children.
WIMIN has a membership of about 1500 persons and 17 state chapters, all engaged in diverse activities in agriculture and mining ranging from gemstones collection, working on metallic ores, tin sheds or as professionals (geologists and engineers) and service providers (Legal, accounting, insurance etc.)
Members have diverse backgrounds and interest in the sector.
