Advertising is the rock and roll of the business world. Advertising fuels commerce. A great advertising campaign can change the destiny of a company. With an Advertising and Promotion Major, you’ll be prepared for a fast-paced, exciting career in the advertising industry. You’ll learn how to apply creative and media principles to all types of marketing communications to solve complex marketing issues. We challenge intellectually curious business students to understand how communications affect brand perceptions and buying behaviors. Every student completes specialized coursework in advertising management, research, media, and creative through a combination of field-specific expertise with real world experiences including internships, study abroad, and the National Student Advertising Competition. Graduates will enter the advertising industry immediately prepared to contribute creative ideas and strategic thinking within an integrated marketing communications plan to make a difference in their client’s businesses.
The WMU AdClub is a student run club that acts as the conduit between students, alumni and employers. Each year, more than 20 guest speakers representing all advertising career paths are invited to speak to the club, and many stay an extra day to actively recruit and interview for upcoming entry-level positions or internships. The AdClub also coordinates several trips to career conferences in Detroit and Chicago. The AdClub works closely with the advertising program faculty and one of the best advisory boards in the nation to facilitate life-changing industry experiences.
