Yukon Arts Centre

The Yukon Arts Centre is the main performing arts venue and the largest presenter of professional touring artists in the Yukon. With a 424-seat theater and class-A public gallery, the Centre serves the arts programming needs of the community through exhibitions and performances, artist residencies and education programs. The Yukon Arts Centre also operates the Old Fire Hall; a downtown, multi-use, 120 seat venue. The artistic vision of the Yukon Arts Centre is primarily shaped by the mandate of the organization as defined by the Arts Centre Act (1988) (copy attached) and the YAC Governing Policy (copy attached). The legislation directs the Centre to (1) present exhibitions and performances, (2) assist the development of fine arts, and (3) make facilities available to the community on an equitable basis. The Governing Policy directs the organization to (1) contribute to the development of a strong cultural economy, (2) expand the role of art in everyday life, and (3) increase the capacity for the expression of art, the individual interpretation of art, and the open discussion of ideas.
