ZIRKON ist ein anwendungsorientiertes Forschungsinstitut der Hochschule Zittau Görlitz. Unsere vier Fachgruppen befassen sich mit nachhaltiger Ressourcennutzung, Kreislaufwirtschaft und dem Transfer von Wissen in die Praxis.
1. Verfahrensentwicklung:
Wir entwickeln Verfahren zur Verwertung von Kunststoffen, Biomasse, Verpackungen, Elektronikschrott und mineralischen Rohstoffen mit mechanischen, thermischen und chemischen Methoden.
2. Oberflächenbehandlung:
Wir erforschen, wie sich Materialeigenschaften durch Oberflächenmodifikation gezielt verändern lassen. Dabei arbeiten wir mit Partnern aus Industrie und Forschung.
3. Bioökonomie:
Wir erarbeiten Strategien zur Biomassenutzung, analysieren Nebenströme und bewerten Technologien ökologisch und systemisch.
4. Naturstoffforschung:
Unsere Forschung umfasst Geotechnik, Vegetationstechnik und Bodenkunde für Rekultivierung, Wassermanagement und technische Substrate.

**English version**
ZIRKON is an applied research institute at the University of Applied Sciences Zittau Görlitz. Our four research groups work on sustainable resource use, circular economy and knowledge transfer.
1. Process Development:
We develop methods for processing plastics, biomass, packaging waste, electronic scrap and minerals using mechanical, thermal and chemical approaches.
2. Surface Treatment:
We study how material properties can be changed through surface technologies in cooperation with industry and academic partners.
3. Bioeconomy:
We create biomass strategies, assess side streams and evaluate technologies from ecological and systemic views.
4. Natural Materials Research:
We work on geotechnics, vegetation systems and soil science for restoration, water management and technical substrates.
