I have been involved with the Chemical and Petrochemical field for over 10 years as a NDT Technician, QC Inspector, API Inspector, Lead QA Representative, Hiring Manager and Regional Inspection Manager. While performing my duties as a Regional Manager of an API/NDT Company I have come to the realization that many candidates within our industry do not have a properly prepared resume that carters to our particular craft(s). As you may know, while working in this specialized field many of us have been employed with dozens of different companies at numerous facilities; this makes creating a concise ‘one or two page’ resume a difficult task when using standard formats. Subsequently, as an unwritten rule, two-thirds of the resumes that are sent to my email inbox will never receive an interview due to the following reasons: a poorly formatted resume, numerous grammatical errors or just a ‘sloppy’ appearance.
Secondly, many candidates have not been coached by their teachers, parents or other positive role models on how to conduct themselves during an interview; much less on the job site.
