Zoo Berlin is in a class of its own! Not only is it the oldest and most frequently visited zoo in the country, it is also home to the largest variety of species of any zoo in the world – including the only Giant Pandas in Germany.
Some 20,000 animals representing almost 1,200 species live in the 33-hectare site at the heart of Berlin’s City West. A combination of historic buildings and state-of-the-art animal habitats creates a very special atmosphere throughout Zoo Berlin. Every day of the year, stars of the animal kingdom like elephants, gorillas and sea lions delight visitors of all ages – together with rare and mysterious species.
Pandas Meng Meng and Jiao Qing are among the visitor’s favorites. These adorable Asian bears live in Zoo Berlin’s Panda Garden – one of the most beautiful panda habitats in the world. It was here, in August 2019, that Berlin welcomed Germany’s first-ever panda cubs: twin brothers Pit and Paule, who immediately captured the hearts of Berliners and visitors alike!
