The Care in Connection Research Center aims to connect healthcare professionals to enable them to perform their work effectively and sustainably, resulting in improved care experiences for individuals.
Our vision is grounded in the objectives outlined by the Quintuple Aim model, which seeks to optimize healthcare systems.
We focus on the more than 670,000 healthcare professionals in Belgium, spanning over 20 legally recognized professions. We implement our vision in practice by addressing three levels:
Shaping the healthcare profession of tomorrow
Together with the field and educational institutions, we help design the healthcare roles of the future—challenging, sustainable, future-proof, and fulfilling. This involves fostering both the individual competencies of healthcare professionals and external factors such as the work environment, self-leadership, the connection between management and professionals, and corporate social responsibility.
Strengthening collaboration among healthcare professionals
We support healthcare workers as collaborators who value integrating their expertise with that of others. Our focus is on improving interdisciplinary and interprofessional collaboration, both within and across teams. This includes addressing diversity within teams in all its forms and breaking down silos between care and welfare services.
Empowering the care recipient and their environment
We recognize the importance of the care recipient and their environment as experts and co-owners of care goals and pathways. We aim to strengthen the connection between professionals and care recipients by promoting tailored care, preventive and goal-oriented approaches, and ensuring accessibility for individuals in vulnerable situations. Additionally, we strive to enhance patients’ digital health literacy and self-management while promoting shared decision-making in care.
