The Education for Development Foundation (EDF) was established in 1987 and officially registered with Ministry of Interior as a charitable organization No 4794 in 1991. In 1994 Ministry of Finance announced the foundation as a Public Charity No 255 with tax-exempted status under the Laws of Thailand.
EDF goal is to improve educational opportunities and the quality of life of underprivileged Thai students in remote areas of Thailand. Sponsored students receive many opportunities to develop necessary life skills and gain valuable knowledge that can be applied throughout their lives.
For children in rural areas of Thailand, poverty means more than just a lack of money. It means a lack of opportunities and hope for the future. Many students are forced to dropout their education in order to find work to support their families. Thus, without education, their employment options are limited and prospects are low.
Our EDF ultimate goal is encourage these children and youth to free themselves from the cycle of poverty. Education also helps them become quality human resources for the betterment of their own families, society and the whole country.
Throughout the years, EDF has provided scholarships to some 422,749 needy students from over 5,600 rural Thai schools, colleges and universities and held more than 300 CSR projects' development in schools and communities around Thailand.
EDF received several awards recognition including NGO of the Year at Thailand NGO Awards 2012 organized by Rockefeller Foundation, the Resource Alliance and Kenan Institute Asia, Five Star Ratings Certificate in 2016 by Giving Back Association for its Good Governance Transparency and Financial Efficiency and from Charity Aids Foundation Group (CAF Group) for the CAF International Validated Organization stating that EDF is structured and operates as a non-profit entity (2021-2023, 2023-2025, 2025-2027).
