IAI设计奖始自2006年举办的亚太室内设计双年大奖赛，期间经历三次奖项名称更迭，并于2014年升华为全设计领域的设计奖为“IAI设计奖”，被央视等国内外权威媒体赞誉为“设计奥斯卡”。2019年，IAI设计奖再次蜕变，将IAI设计奖划分为三大子奖项暨“IAI智造奖”（IAI+IM）、“IAI建筑奖”（IAI+A）、“IAI室内奖”（IAI+I），完善并提升了IAI设计奖的专业高度，进一步奠定了IAI奖项的权威性和美誉度；
IAI设计奖颁发给在创新设计和可持续设计上做出杰出贡献的设计师，院校和设计机构等;每年IAI都会给获奖者出版年鉴，并在全球发行，寻求商业合作;IAI设计奖包含室内设计，建筑设计，工业产品设计，传播设计和产品概念设计，APDF在亚洲设立IAI年度大奖的目的是将设计创意和商业牵线搭桥。
