Gunma University

Gunma University is located near the northern edge of the Kanto Plain in Japan, approximately 100 km northwest of Tokyo. It is nestled among the three majestic peaks of Mt. Akagi, Mt. Haruna, and Mt. Myogi, which are engraved in the university emblem. Our university originated from the "Elementary School Teacher Training Institute" established in 1873 and with a tradition of over 150 years, has been promoting toward making the University into one that, “rooted in the community, through intellectual creation, dares to be at the forefront of the world in carving out the 21st century.” As a base for education and research, it is composed of four faculties: the Cooperative Faculty of Education, Faculty of Informatics, Faculty of Medicine, and School of Science and Technology. In addition to undergraduate programs, graduate programs are offered across eight fields. Each year, approximately 5,000 undergraduate students and 1,300 graduate students are enrolled, of which 300 are international students. Additionally, around 30 exchange students from overseas sister universities are accepted. Research institutions such as the Institute for Molecular and Cellular Regulation, the Heavy Ion Medical Center, the Initiative for Advanced Research (GIAR), the Center for Food Science and Wellness, have achieved remarkable results through collaboration with domestic and international institutions. Our University will continue carrying out reforms to make it a center gathering knowledge and global human resources, and a compelling research and education university.
