A significant portion of our team's research focuses on the growth of two-dimensional crystals. We have particular expertise and extensive experience in graphene growth (LINK) on SiC using hydrogen-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD). Additionally, we are currently developing a similar technique for the growth of BN crystals. Recently, we have also embarked on a project involving the growth of transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDs) using molecular beam epitaxy (MBE), which will soon be further enhanced with the installation of an MBE-CVD cluster.
In a broader scope, our team is also interested in the fabrication of novel heterostructures. These structures are obtained either through MBE or 3D CVD growth on 2D substrates (such as MBE-grown LED structures on h-BN), or through dry transfer techniques (stacking 2D materials or 2D on 3D nanostructures).
Some of these structures, specifically designed for 2D-based quantum nanophotonics, are studied using micro-spectroscopy techniques at low temperatures. Our ultimate goal is to achieve control and manipulation of excitons to generate ordered arrays of single-photon sources and harness collective quantum effects for applications in quantum technologies, including QKD, sensors arrays, and Q communications.
