Sinds 2016 is het 3D Lab van het ETZ bezig met ondersteunen van het zorgproces. Door het printen van anatomische modellen kunnen complexe structuren duidelijk in beeld worden gebracht. Een 3D geprint model kan namelijk meer inzicht geven dat 2D beelden.
Sinds het begin van 2022 is het 3D Lab aan het professionaliseren. Allereerst wordt de gehele workflow van de Orthognatische Chirurgie (Mond-Kaak-Aangezichtschirurgie(MKA)) uitgerold. Door het printen van gebitsmodellen, het maken van 3D planningen het printen van wafers (gebitsmallen) zorgt het 3D Lab voor complete in huis ondersteuning voor de afdeling MKA.
Richting de toekomst zal het 3D Lab zich meer toe gaan leggen op in huis 3D planningen/-printen voor andere specialismen. Denk hierbij aan Orthopedie, Traumachirurgie en Chirurgie.
Naast 3D planning en -printing wordt ook onderzoek gedaan in het 3D Lab. De toepassing van de Hololens in de Vaatchirurgie wordt veelvuldig onderzocht en getest.
