The concept is fairly simple. A Doc / A Day highlights one documentary film each day — shorts and feature-lengths — with the hope of exposing people to great films, renewing or extending the "shelf life" of older documentaries, finding hidden gems, and bringing attention to the awe-inspiring work of talented filmmakers and the dedicated teams of people behind them... all in a pleasant, entertaining, and, dare I say, funny way.
It's all about discovering the wonders of the world through the documentary form, each day learning about one more amazing film that exists.
A Doc / A Day was started by Julia Mann - just your average documentary lover, maker, enthusiast, and advocate - when she realized a little dollop of documentary each day does everyone some good.
Julia is originally from Baltimore but currently lives in Tel Aviv. She is an alumna of The New School’s Documentary Media Studies graduate program. She is a freelance filmmaker, having worked on documentaries The Camera of Doctor Morris (Docaviv 2022 - Best Israeli Film), Chasing Childhood (World Premiere DOC NYC 2020), and Saving Capitalism (Netflix Original 2017). Julia has also worked at a handful of organizations and companies in the documentary industry, including Cinephil, Close Up Initiative (a documentary training program for filmmakers from Southwest Asia and North Africa), Docaviv - The Tel Aviv International Documentary Film Festival, and Film Fest Report. When she is not watching or making documentaries, Julia can be found dabbling in pottery or snuggling with her dog.
