Dankzij ons onderzoek weten we bijvoorbeeld dat:
• als jouw moeder alcohol heeft gedronken of heeft gerookt tijdens de zwangerschap, de kans groter is dat jij slaapproblemen had op leeftijd 7-8 jaar.
• als 11-12-jarige meisjes veel zoete drankjes drinken, ze een grotere kans hebben op menstruatieklachten 4 jaar later.
• als ouders regels stellen over schermgebruik thuis, hun tieners (15-16 jaar) eerder naar bed gaan, langer slapen en minder op hun scherm zitten. En daardoor beter slapen.
De ABCD-studie is een grootschalig en langlopend onderzoek naar de gezondheid van 8.000 in Amsterdam geboren kinderen. ABCD staat dan ook voor of Amsterdam-Born Children and their Development. Daarbij onderzoeken we welke factoren tijdens de vroege zwangerschap of in de eerste levensjaren invloed hebben op de gezondheid van deze kinderen tot op volwassen leeftijd. De studie is uniek in haar opzet, multi-etnische samenstelling, compleetheid en kosteneffectiviteit van dataverzameling en -analyse.
