Anchor Homes is an affordable housing development company that creates high-quality, yet affordable, single-family rentals.
We purchase homes in poor, often unlivable, condition and renovate them to ensure that they are safe, clean, and welcoming. The newly renovated homes are rented specifically to families utilizing the government-subsidized housing choice voucher program.
In order to keep rents affordable and ourselves in business our home purchase price AND renovation total must remain below or around $100,000. This is very difficult to do in today's market, so our strategy is to prioritize the functionality of key house components (the most vital of which won't make a property "look" any better than it did before: roof, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc). While our properties may not have marble counter tops or tile floor bathrooms, our homes instead have new roofs, new central HVAC units, new flooring + subflooring, updated plumbing + electrical, new paint, new interior + exterior doors with locks, and fully repaired wall + ceiling drywall. It is important to understand that while these may just seem like the basics, for many of our families coming from public housing projects, over cramped housing, properties of "slumlords", or even homelessness a basic, problem free and functional, 3-4 bedroom single family home in a neighborhood is a life changing upgrade.
We will also purchase homes with pre-existing families already in place who are utilizing the housing choice voucher program to ensure that their residence remains affordable and in great shape.
At this time Anchor Homes is only operating in the Birmingham, Alabama housing market.
