AFDAA provides a forum for the exchange of ideas and information among forensic DNA scientists to keep current on the methods, techniques, and procedures presently used in the field of forensic science. We promote the dissemination of information on research and developments of new techniques within the field while keeping members abreast of the latest legislative issues concerning DNA analysis. These are often showcased at our annual summer meetings and winter workshops where we host guest speakers and training opportunities, as well as provide networking opportunities for professionals in the field. These meetings and workshops also provide formal continuing education, as mandated by FBI and QAS standards for the forensic DNA field. Our organization started in the early 1990s when a few scientists met annually at the Texas Department of Public Safety to exchange ideas related to current forensic methods. We currently have over 300 members from approximately 75 different agencies, expanding across the U.S. as well as internationally.
