L’AFH a un caractère purement technique et se fixe pour objectif de promouvoir les flux d’informations et la communication dans tous les domaines de la technique histologique par l’organisation de journées de rencontres ou de congrès, par l’édition d’une revue annuelle, et via son site internet.
Elle met à disposition de la communauté d'histologistes un outil de partage de techniques et d'entraide entre professionnels : une liste de diffusion.
